I tried to send a link to Tronix's new mix to a friend.. and they were asked to log in. should this forum be private or public?

Forbidden City, Suggestions, and Events are the only public forums.

Perhaps your right that should be public. Anyone other opinions?

I think they should have to log in still. What's the big deal?? It keeps people kinda more in check so they don't trash talk someone's mix. I don't think it's a big deal if they have to register, is it??

I think it should be private. I send people links as well, but ask them to join CNL for free and let them know that they will not be spammed or anything.

There should be member privileges to keep people returning (other than all the love going around recently). Downloads and private areas are a privilege.

I agree. Registration encourages people to become more active in the CNL community, and since it's free and there's no spam, there's really no reason not to. If you're being sent here in the first place, it's probably because someone thinks you'll be interested in this stuff, so why not register.

Definitely keep it as is.

hmm late on this thread, but there are advantages and disadvantages to keeping that section public and private.

keep in mind that people generally do not like having to sign up for something.

private +'s
1) no random board spammers that have nothing to do with cleveland can post irrelevent promotions
2) easier to moderate

priviate -'s
the casual surfers can not see some of the more interesting music-centered discussions the forum has to offer

public +'s
1)casual surfers can see some of the more interesting music-centered discussions on this forum
2) more google searches may lead to discussiosn in the section

public -'s
random board spammers can post irrelevant promotions

do the benefits outweight the costs? no-eye-deer

Perhaps djs & producers should be public then. More thoughts? I am indifferent, except i would like to encourage people to be more active and not provide a place for thems just to spam.

if your a dj or producer i think it'd be to your benefit to make a profile on here to network with eveyone else, maybe set up a section thats just links to mixes, i dunno hard to decide on something like this

We got a full index by MSN and GOOGLE this month, and my bandwidth got pounded. We had 10 gigs of traffics, when we usually get 4-6 gigs of traffic. Every forum I open up means that is more traffic when we get indexed.

I might look into finding a way to add forbidden city to robots.txt so that it is not longer searched and indexed.

We might have to think about doing a "prune" again soon (aka deleting some old stuff).

Either we should have a "classifieds" section... or producers/djs should be public. Right now, however, I made the section public.
