10 to one odds it is the radiator, and that my mechanics just cleaned the system, replaced the pump and stat, because it was a radiator leak.

1. you should have openend it (the hood, obviously) so you could see if it was obviously coming from somewhere.

Have you ever opened a hood of a car with spurting radiator fluid?... You'll be seeing yourself in the hospital next...

Lesson 1. Never open the hood with radiator fluid spewing everywhere.

Seriously.. you'll burn yourself really bad.

Also...

GM didnt start putting Dexcool in cars until 1996. I know GM says that its recommended that you replace the parts if you accidently put the wrong fluid in, but usually all you'd have to do is flush the system.
Also, if it was mixed.. all the fluid does is start gooking up like jello. So that's probably why the recommend replacement.

Dexcool = Orange.

That new pink stuff that's been coming out lately is recommended for the newer model toyota's and what not.

Color has to do with what type of radiator a car has. If it's aluminum, steel, or whatever the case may be. It's the same for when you guy radiator stop leak as well.

It tends to get confusing for most that arent familiar with it. And the only reason I know this shit is cause I worked in autopart for 3 years now. Sad
Also was a service writer for Pep Boys at one time. Smile

Doug, enjoy yourself guy. You surely deserve the time away!

Actually yes, plenty of times. the car I had from age 16 through age 19 had every cooling problem known to man...except a broken radiator cap, which was doug's problem. I got more burns from the exhaust manifolds on that car than from hot coolant.

However, if you don't know where the 'spurting is coming from or in what direction it's going it's probably not the best idea, so yeah if you don't know what you're doing leave it down.

I don't know what year doug's car is, but I'm pretty sure it's 96 or later...that body style of jimmy came out in 95 IIRC

for some reason I thought dexcool was GM's equivalent of the pink stuff...oops.

Sorry if I was sounding snobby at all. Wasn't my direction..

But yeah. I've seen people at my job try to add fluid to their over-flo tubs, not knowing that it's a pressurized system for a reason!.. So they open the cap and BOOM. We have to make it a point at work to tell them not to add fluid until the car has sat, and is cool.. Even then they don't listen.

Alot of people think that Dexcool is pink. I don't know where it's coming from at all, but usually when you go and buy radiator fluid.. the gallon jugs have color coded caps on them. Smile We dont even sell the pink type yet. We just hand out what they call "global" fluid, which is meant for all makes and colors. It seems to be working well. I wasn't into it at first....

Oh maaaan. So Im butch now? Razz

I honestly wished I didnt know as much as I do. I'm a girl for christ sakes, but this is what's making me money right now until I put my fat ass into school.

Besides, I don't have a man in my life to take care of such things as these, so maybe it is better I know what I know.

You guys are silly.

Not alot of people know about where I work. I kinda like it that way (even though I just exploited it.. ungh) considering it's embarassing at times. I just hate working there, and having to tell some schmuk that he's wrong about his car information... "youre a girl, you wouldnt know anything"..

Going off topic is the new trend. Everybody's doing it.

It's very Message Board Haute Couture.

Get with it, J.
Very Happy

I drove an audi for 5 years...that was commonplace, even with the places that specialized in import parts.

I wouldn't do very well in retail of any form...especially dealing with hillbillys on one side of the spectrum and pimp-my-ride / ricer types on the other.

Thats why I didnt really say whether or not Dougs car takes green or orange fluid. There's this thing that most dealers like to do, and that's toy around with parts on cars... so if you own a 1989, its probably got parts for 1990. Or.. a 1995 will have 1996 parts. Even 1999/2000. There has been cases where the parts are correct for the exact years too, but I hate getting bitched at when people say... "I said its a fucking 1989".. well either you want to waste another trip and get shitty again, or you can slow your roll for a second ass wipe.

Audi's are the WORST for part look ups. My ex had a 88 quattro and you can't find anything for it anymore. I told his dumb ass not to buy it too, but nooooooooooooo. hehe...
