Being a newb to the area I might see stuff that others overlook.

But, I am utterly Impressed at the reservations/parks in the area. WOW! I've now hiked South Euclid Creek park, squires castle, and a chunk of nelson ledges. We have a few parks in Rochester but they are not developed. In the city its a flat lot w/ a crappy playground...an they say THERE thats a park. NO such things as fancy walkways through natural casms. And with sqires castle, that lot is only like 1/10 of the park!

Just pointing out that your city did a really good job with this. A lot is the WPA from what i understand. Feel proud, because the very idea of a chain of MetroParks is awesome, and was very well executed.

Ok im done drooling for now. But, there are more parks on the map that I can count w/ fingers and toes.

dp
Any recomendations of sightseeing natureland?

You gotta get over to the MetroParks on the Westside..RockyRiver Reservation, Brecksville Reservation, Strongsville, Down to Cuyahoga Valley, Really some beautiful terrain. Any time I have a chance to take a long cut thru the parks I drive thru them especially in the summer, Very pleasant driving.

I was just reading something in the Plain Dealer about the MetroParks being the biggest asset to Cleveland that people dont take advantage of. They are truly an unbelievable plus to the area. There are a lot of really cool areas to explore. I am a big fan of outdoors stuff too

Yep, the parks rule!! I love the drive out to Akron following the old Erie Canal. You go by the ski resorts and follow the river, it's a really nice, relaxing drive. Also Whips Ledges, Hinckley Lake, and Furnace(sp?) run are dope spots too. Stop at the Winking Lizard in Pinnusula for a cold one(or a few), it always gives me extra hiking motivation. Lots of great parks out there. Glad you noticed DP!!

Living in Cleveland Heights, I don't always want to drive for 1/2 hour to get to the Metroparks. So for a quick nature walk, I go to Shaker Lakes. It's right down the street (Coventry and Northpark blvd) and is beautiful to walk around.

I'm not a fan of taxes, or how our dollars are often used...but I ALWAYS vote for the metroparks funding. There really isn't a better resource in our city.

In addition, to the Metroparks the Buckeye trail is awesome too, you can bike almost all the way from Cleveland to Akron, over gravel, over dirt, over wodden bridges, up hills, by the canal, you name it. Gorgeous. (And stop by the winking lizard in Peninsual for ice cream along the way  )

The Akron metroparks are pretty incredible as well. Northeast ohio has some of the best parks in the country imo.

actually, if you want the best nature settings in the greater Cleveland area, you have to check the East side. Chagrin Falls in particular. I grew up on the West side, and know the rocky river reservation and strongsville mill stream run areas well, but they are nothing in comparison to the South Chagrin reservation area.

Do yourself a favor dp, and check it out...

Hinckley Lake/waterfall and Whipp's Ledges are both part of the West side Metroparks system, though.

Definitely my favorite spot in NEOhio.

A good runner-up is the place on rt. 303 with the Icebox Cave and the hollow of pine trees that looks like something out of Lord of the Rings. There's also cliffs and ledges out there as well.

Jump into the park off Bagley Road in Berea going south, and keep going straight along Valley Creek Pkwy until you're into Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville...you can cross 82 and keep going until it ends.

Not a bad ride, but for much more interesting and fulfilling rides, get out into the country south and west of Cuyahoga Co. Riding Lake Road from Lakewood to Avon/Sheffield is nice...but my favorite rides are going down 252 into Medina Co. Just start making turns and get yourself lost on a nice 85 degree afternoon. Wink

Penisulla, great rides, great food/beer in the middle point of some nice twisties. Also head up RT 8, and head towards the quaker steak n lube, i think its the first light after chipoltle and take a left, nice twisites and scenery down that way until you hit the restraunts.
