Josh, your slackn! I've had this one for going on a day!

Andy always drops the bad ass plates, no doubt, but sometimes it gets to predictable. This set, however, is a whole fuckin china cabinet falling from 10 stories. HEAVY.

One thing that andy is good at, is shuffling up the various styles of dnb in a set...which is really hard if you think about transition from a liquid funk jazz track to some dillinja distorted basslines.

dope new tracks im really hot on:
Chase & Status – ‘Duppy Men’ <---nasty, NASTY track
Calibre – ‘Is It U’
Sub Focus – ‘Citizen Kane’ (Frequency)
High Contrast – ‘Lights Go Down’
Fresh - funk academy

other tunes i am/have been jammin for a minute:

Dillinja – ‘Gang Bang’
Spirit – ‘Siren’ (White label)
Pendulum – ‘Slam V.I.P’ (Breakbeat Kaos)
m.i.s.t. - Outtaspace
Logistics – ‘Together V.I.P’ (Hospital)

I spread it around to about 10 different forums as soon as it was available.
I would have had it myself in less than an hour after the set was done if I didnt have to wait til Sunday to d/l stuff on my folks cable connection. Dial-up SUCKS.... Crying or Very sad

That problem will be solved very soon though.
I'm gonna be getting hi-speed installed here at my place on Friday for $20/month for the next year.

I actually kinda think the opposite on that one. You've gotta bring it all different ways to pull on peoples emotions. This is where alot of guys lack style & flavor. By constantly staying within the same sub-genre of "drum & bass" that is. They wonder "why did this dj's set just really go nowhere & was really mediocre." The answer my friend is a Lack of Definition.
A real killer is gonna sound more like a real killer after a real chiller. Know what I mean.

good mix. he definitely knows how to keep the energy going.

BUT

his mixes sound waaaay too busy sometimes. some mixes aren't in the right key and he'll ride them out for a while which really gets to me.

actually that's what i don't get about his style...when keys are off in mixes, it usually kills it for me. but andy c somehow manages to keep the energy going even if his keys are off.

what's the secret?

Andy, like many of his listeners, lack a "musical ear" Idea

Its not even that really.

He's built up a reputation, and he plays all the hot jams like he does in his mixes. SO when youre listening it washes out whats wrong from right.. (to alot of listeners).

Get someone thats low key in the scene to play that same exact set and you'd probably see a huge difference in responce.

But thats only for us that do have hears. =)

sometimes the chords in the melodies of each record that he's mixing don't sound right together. its just like when 2 musicians are trying to play a different song at the same time. there isn't a strong interaction with the notes being played. it sounds like they're fighting each other to be heard.

the energy from the tracks builds a good momentum. you can actually get away with playing tracks that are in conflicting keys on larger/distorted sound systems, but its shows through in car speakers and headphones.

i agree with jea about the reputation andy c's built. i've seen plenty of instances where a local would play a tune that was hot, but didn't get a crowd response. then a headliner will come through, play the same track and the crowd goes crazy over it. like somehow the record is so much more magical and exciting when some big name plays it.

The key to harmonic mixing
for the DJ Artist

Harmonic mixing is the natural evolution of beat mixing: mixing in compatible keys. You can now avoid sour mixes caused by clashing melodies. You can mix long overlays without depending on percussion "free beats." You can achieve those "screamer mixes" which provide the ultimate DJ rush!

Camelot Sound provides both types of information needed to program harmonically: keys to each song and key compatibility. Our database (updated monthly) contains bpm/key information on over 32,000 songs. Our Easymix System makes harmonic programming as easy as telling time and gives the DJ the proper tools to fully express his artistry.

Until now DJs with an ear for music avoided sour mixes by using percussion breaks or "free beats" from one of the songs being mixed. His artistry was severely limited in the same manner that a painter's would be, if the painter could never mix colors together, or if he could only mix every color with grey. Harmonic mixing is the technique of mixing different keys artistically, instead of randomly, in order to create musical blends rather than bland or sour mixes.
