"Damn theres people I know that can sit around a PS2 and produce a pretty nifty track thru a freakin game."

speakin of ignorant folks there you go.

apparently you have no sense of humor. as my commments were strictly for laughs

and obviously you dont dabble much in production. but yes it is true... it really doesnt matter what you use, its the end result.

if youve had the pleasure of trying to get windows 'music production' ready. there are a series of TWEAKS that are almost essential to get your system production worthy. not to mention first having to format and do a CLEAN OS install.

MACs are BUILT for multi-media. bottom line. theyre ready to go out of the box.

now sure both are capable. but which is more stable and more efficient with its resources?

BUT...i can pretty much 100% guarantee you NOBODY is putting out tunes made on a PS2.

and which are YOU using or have you used? any? speaking from experience or what youve heard?

to get anything to sound up to par....using beginnner programs such as reason/acid/PS2 or whatever the F. you still need quite a bit of additional processing to get it there. whether it be external compression or what not. they are GREAT programs to learn on dont get me wrong. but they DO NOT produce the same results as sequencing software such as CUBASE SX or LOGIC. there is definitely a quality issue.

just my 2 cents. not trying to argue... just stating some hopefully helpful facts.

Awwww ya,

Just wanted to let you guys know I'm the proud owner of a 15" 1.67gh Powerbook now. I ended up getting a 1Gig memory upgrade, a Lacie 200 Gig harddrive, and a Final Scratch 2.0 interface also.
Midi controllers, & monitors will have to be had in the very near future

Now I just need to make up my mind on what software to use.
Logic vs Cubase vs Ableton live>
It's a very tough decision, but I have a few demo versions that I can mess around with before I make the investment.

By the way, does anyone have any tips for setting up the puter for hardcore audio processing. Settings wise that is..

Thanks

for the mac...go with cubase or nuendo and reason and some vst's like moog modular, kontakt, battery, and waves....i know alot of mac purists will cringe at this....but seriously...there is no point to using logic...its a fucking nightmare to use if u just wanna make music...cubase/nuendo will do everything logic does...but much easier...and the sound quality is identical....but honestly...if u get reason....you'll do most of your work there...then setup the rewire mix just to put the shine on the sounds with the good vst eqs and compressors...the only upside to logic are some of the instruments availble to it...the esx sampler is actually very good sonically...but just like logic itself...its hard to use(even loading samples is a chore, more of a chore than my hardware emu sampler which i have to send samples to via midi!)

just my 2cents on sequencers...personally im regressing to hardware from daws...after only 2weeks of ownership, i can safely say my hardware sampler sounds better than any softsampler ever made....i put some crusty bongos in there from a 40 year old jazz record....with just a little waves NR on the daw and the samplers normalising process the bongos sounded like they were recorded with a 4,000 dollar nueman close to the heads to new clean tape, instead of sounding like a dusty 40 year old record probalby recorded on 2 room mics to a tape deck that sounds like it needs cleaning or an axe....next on my list is an mpc, so i can completely get away from the daw for sequencing, and just use it as a recorder....cuz editing on the daw is much easier than trying to deal with tape(analog or digital)

i've heard a lot of producers saying ableton 4 is the shiznit for producing b/c you can flow your ideas a lot quicker and its easy to manipulate a sample just by 2 clicks and a drag of a mouse.

yesss...having a pc on the side is a must. plus they're so cheap now!

i got my dad a mac mini for his b-day. before he was a hardcore pc user, but he's moved the PC into the closet and remotely logs in to it from the mac.

who says you can't have the best of both worlds?

oh, and another reason why macs are sweet:

when apple comes out with a new operating system, its faster than the one before.

when Microsoft comes out with a new operating system, you have to buy a new PC.

f** that sh*t
