"A true DJ can rock five hours of Big Band or Square Dancing just as well as Hardcore Techno," asserts Skribble. "Hell, I could even beat-mix silence if I had to."
Up and coming DJs, take note. Is it any coincidence that wedding DJs have the most gigs and revenue? Your purpose is to serve the crowd; you are a living, breathing jukebox. Stop being selfish by playing what YOU think is good. Time to put aside your petty notions of artistry, get out of those small, dirty lounges, and give the people what they want!

Now see....I could ALMOST agree with this article until this last paragraph...yes a DJ's job is to entertain a crowd to "give" people what they want if you will...but the "artistry" of a DJ is what continues to push the envelope...to go a little ahead of the curve to the next "big" thing of a music trend and NOT to remain stagnate to the whims of a crowd that may want something from Lil Jon to Metallica or anything 80's in between from weeks on end while you know someone, somewhere in the club is saying "This sucks...we hear the same songs all the time from this place...when can we hear something new for a change?"
Why bother to even go out & pay for cover & drinks when you're going to hear the same thing that's on the radio & video stations?!? |
I am proud of you for seeing through that crazy bullshit. |
Agreed...to walk the fine line of artistry vs. entertainment is always a tricky one. To even acknowledge this is what separates a DJ that does know or cares to know, from a DJ that truly cares about all the aspects and not trying just to make a fast buck!
