You said you played hip hop which technically is rap.

Hip hop = breakdance, graffiti, rap.

Rap is something you do, hip hop is something you live. Man, I thought you were a student of KRS-One!

In my eyes, there is a difference between hip hop and rap. I like hip hop. I don’t like rap. They may be defined very similar, but they're different.

I am an apprentice, and under such circumstances I cannot claim myself worthy to spread the word but at least I can try.

Up and coming DJs, take note. Is it any coincidence that wedding DJs have the most gigs and revenue? Your purpose is to serve the crowd; you are a living, breathing jukebox. Stop being selfish by playing what YOU think is good. Time to put aside your petty notions of artistry, get out of those small, dirty lounges, and give the people what they want!

Now see....I could ALMOST agree with this article until this last paragraph...yes a DJ's job is to entertain a crowd to "give" people what they want if you will...but the "artistry" of a DJ is what continues to push the envelope...to go a little ahead of the curve to the next "big" thing of a music trend and NOT to remain stagnate to the whims of a crowd that may want something from Lil Jon to Metallica or anything 80's in between from weeks on end while you know someone, somewhere in the club is saying "This sucks...we hear the same songs all the time from this place...when can we hear something new for a change?"

Why bother to even go out & pay for cover & drinks when you're going to hear the same thing that's on the radio & video stations?!?

I declare this thread to be officially hijacked per the Clubplanet Forum Accords of 2001.

The new topic shall be, "Hip Hop vs. Rap: Is the Difference More Than Semantics?"

Yes it is!!! Among many of the reasons I believe among the best is just to quote KRS-ONE when he says "Rap is something you do...Hip-Hop is something you live"!

I just saw this. I could beatmatch silence with my ass from the depths of a coma. I wanna see skribble beatmatch happy hardcore to polka. that'd be impressive.

Also important to note, Rap has nicer cars and cooler sneakers than Hip Hop.

Agreed...to walk the fine line of artistry vs. entertainment is always a tricky one. To even acknowledge this is what separates a DJ that does know or cares to know, from a DJ that truly cares about all the aspects and not trying just to make a fast buck!

I took this to mean he had a rare copy of John Cage's 4'33" on vinyl. Or not.

okay, i can't let this insanity continue anymore. that article was keeping it about as real as jim breuer's pot smoking in half baked. i thought that the paragraph about gigs in rwanda and playing for deaf people would have tipped everyone off. it's satire, people!

i am now the jayson blair of clevelandnightlife.net. i never meant for this web of lies to extend so far. please, when you stone me in the town center, use organically grown rocks.

now that the untruth is out, re-read the article and properly appreciate my ironic, sardonic, sarcastic ass -- now in 5.1 surround sound!

I think the stoning will commence soon.

That fact that some of us actually let that fly speaks volumes about one of the following:

(1) our level of intellect
(2) our level of gullability
(3) how thoroughly we actually read/comprehend what dave posts
(4) how seriously we take anything supposedly written about skribble or skribble himself

I was hoping to not have to reveal myself, so that Skribble himself would eventually catch wind of this...but I could not bear to witness the horror that I created. It wasn't my intention, I swear!

Okay, let's all delete the last twenty posts and start over...
