EMANCIPATOR

Emancipator’s intricate, artful beats have earned him the kind of organic success 99% of artists only dream about. His debut album “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough,” was released only in Japan, but it filtered out into the rest of the world thanks to determined fans who got the music before the label did, ordered the expensive import or donated money in exchange for mp3s. But on September 8th 2009 the album will come out in the U.S. on STS9's own 1320 Records. The re-release is timed with Emancipator’s first North American tour, 10 performances across the country including three stops with Pretty Lights in the southeastern U.S and appearances at Trinumeral Festival in Asheville and Symbiosis Gathering in Yosemite.
“Emancipator’s debut album ‘Soon It Will Be Cold Enough’ beautifully mixes hip hop beats with guitar feedback and a delicate piano melody,” Rolling Stone says. “You can feel his energy when he performs. His face lights up and you can see how much he enjoys the music.”
Other reviews call the music “chill but captivating,” “fresh, clean production and sweet melodies,” and “damn cool.” Because it’s impossible to pin Emancipator to a specific genre, his fans struggle to describe the music: “Um, it’s really pretty, but like with SICK beats.”
ELIOT LIPP

After more than eight years of global touring, seven solo albums, countless collaborations, label-head tastemaking and vital artist-incubator in the USA's most critical beat-making cities (SF, Chicago, NYC), Eliot Lipp's status as an electronic music pioneer is known to scene connoisseurs and weekend warriors alike. Lipp's omnivorous tastes are apparent, from the obvious funk and myriad manifestations of hip-hop though less explicit reference points as jazz fusion, folk and techno. His well-earned reputation as a producer's producer stems, in part, from his craftsmanship. Never content with well-worn breaks and effects, his work incorporates a fetishistic love of analogue gear with sampledelic flourishes, intricate rhythmic patterns and more than a few leftfield surprises. But his melodic instincts and tunefulness are what have earned him such wide appeal, his songwriterly connection to music's storytelling possibilities, even without words.
TOR

Tor was raised in a small mountain town on Canada's west coast where he started experimenting with music production as a teenager. He further honed his skills while living in Australia, running a small recording studio and remixing some prominent Australian producers. He later produced the Sufjan Stevens hip hop mashup album 'Illinoize', which garnered a lot of critical and audience acclaim.
Now based in Vancouver and inspired by the positive feedback he received from his previous projects, he decided to finally produce the album he had been wanting to make for almost 10 years: 'Drum Therapy'. It combines layers of downtempo melodic beats, organic instrumentation, and the unmistakable sounds of dusty samples. For the album, Tor mined everything from 60’s Italian film scores and long-lost Turkish psych records, to Celtic folk hymns, exotic eastern instruments and deep south gospel. He also played many of the non-sampled elements himself, and treated the sounds to give them the warmth & texture he had always wanted the album to have.
Tor is the first artist signed to Emancipator’s newly minted label ‘Loci Records’, and is continuing to perform live after adapting his music for multiple festival performances over the summer of 2012.
