Personally I am against it. PMs are for messages that require my attention. Your event info does not necessarily qualify as such.

However, maybe it would be good to poll the CNL massive and see what other people think. Make your opinon known, and vote.

As long as it's obviously not a cookie-cutter post.

As long as it's a personally-written invite, that's fine with me.

Personally, I don't like myspace and email flyers posted in comments if they're GIGANTIC. Make a smaller version that links to the full version, or If you use Imageshack, you can opt for a small thumbnail that links to a larger version.

Here I thought this was personal.

For some people, in-your-face marketing works the opposite.

one more take on the poll that is up...

when you word it like that, of course everyone will vote no

your leading people into a "no answer"

no one likes spam

most people except some, would like an invite to a party

as far as Derek's comment...each invite was personal, there is NO machine I have that invites people...it was personal...each one I did myself and it takes time...I invited people I thought would want to go...not just randoms...

I had a couple of people thank me for the invite BTW, but whatever.

For the people who aren't here regularly, it probably is a nice way to invite them. For the people who are, it is a double edged sword. Just know that in the future, that's not cool. A lot of other boards would be less forgiving Wink

I have to agree with you Derek! I'm finding myself on my page deleting more and more comment flyers specially after the date has passed. I don't want to disable my HTML's but when you don't leave me a comment or attach every comment with a flyer....(BIG ASS HINT CNL Peeps)!

You Better Recognize!

its Ok. I thought about the issue at hand here...I guess I was looking at it through a myopic lense...if everyone did this, than it would be annoying as hell. This is not myspace (which is for promoting that way)this is a message board...so, I understand...maybe just to friends on the board that you have not seen out in a bit, one could say..."hey, it would be nice to see you there, I will buy you a beer or whatever.." So, again, I get the point on this. Don't message people that would get annoyed with it...ie:Doug, Mark, Derek, Brandon, Graph, probably Stiffy, Tyler, Stout and a few others Laughing No, but seriously I get it...but I do disagree with the statement about Myspace...now, one can delete or use it however they want...but in my view, its a great tool for marketing, and it's different from email, it's supposed to be about networking, which includes posting flyers on people's pages ect..one can always use it for whatever they want, but in my opinion, it's set up to network and do those things. That's why there is 3 forms of communication, the private message, the bulliten and the comment, where html can be disabled. So anyhow that's my 2 cents. I hate all of you. Wink

Re: Doug, Mark, and Derek.

We're administrators/moderators and we only get so much room in our PM inbox, and we get a lot more messages than you think from the over 1600 members including "can you help me with this or that? Can you delete my comment? Can you move our thread here or there? How do I...?" etc. We read all the threads (personally, I fix typos and make everything in the titles uniform, and more, so I know what's going on and coming up. In fact, I even get phone calls many times a week from people asking what's going on or coming up for the weekend.) So, yeah, please use our inboxes for issues, not to promote.

As for Myspace, yes it is a good tool for promotion, but there is such thing as overpromotion, and gigantic flyers that won't even fit on one page are eyesores and obnoxious. Graphic file manipulating programs have a RESIZE option for a reason. And as I said, Imageshack even has a function where you can put a smaller thumbnail in comments and clicking will take the user to a full-sized version of what you posted. There's a fine line between use and abuse. If the file is larger widthwide than a typical comment box, use the thumbnail option.

Again, this is a general statement to all, not specifically targeted at anyone in particular.

And to further add...leave me a real comment on my page if I know you...at least every once in awhile!
Wink
