The little javascript calendar to the right of the top page adds a considerable amount of load time when you click on a page.

I am debating about removing it - and just having the full calendar.

opinions?

I didn't notice that.

Kind of redundant, no?

Yeah, the split screen is kinda nifty...

but using that, you're missing out on any events where the poster hasn't updated the calendar date (see all Wed, Thrs, Fri events that just happened, save Re(Vision) since I updated that one myself).

If you use the main Calendar, you can still see the weeklies from the previous week that haven't had their date updated yet.

Found a setting in the Calendar that turns off the "overview" which is what allows it to display the event info when you hover over the events. I turned that off, which increased page load time.

The next two tasks are:
Get all those 70's and 80's dates from the dropdown list removed (easier said than done)
Upgrade the templates for the Calendar link to get rid of the off-colors.
Remove the dropdown so that you are always viewing ALL forums instead of having the ability to choose.

In the "during" box, I made it so you could list a day... but took out the hours.

I think I am going to try to take out the time function as well.

The reason for the last two is so that it is easier to add and edit calendar info.

Also, related to one of the recent mods... when you go to split the topics are no longer showing for mods to cut and paste. That makes the approval process harder.

I might look into an actual approval "mod" instead of splitting it the way we currently do. I have a feeling that won't happen though.

Okay... after a few days of poking around with template code.

a) Removed the links to the schedule which looks ugly and I don't think any used (and I never really saw a point to it).

b) Made the Calendar look nicer than it ever has before. Still isn't perfect, but much better than ever.

c) Took out the duration time when posting an event. You can still do multiple days however.

d) Cleaned up the appearance of adding events to Calendar.

e) Remove the 70's and 80's dates from the dropdown when posting an event.

f) Figure out why topics aren't showing in the moderator split console.

g) "All times" are now working.

h) IP Logging on registration (for banning spambots)

To do:

a) Remove the odd minutes and make then 15 minute intervals in the dropdown when posting an event.

b) In calendar view - remove the dropdown to select a forum.

c) Spambot Mod

d) Look into "authorization" mod for events section. That way instead of splitting all posts will go into a cue before they are posted.

e) "Last on" mod

f) User setting to ignore siglines

g) gallery both here and on poo-bas.com has been broken for 2 months

I think I deserve a jwd on the new appearance of the Calendar!

PS... The server admin noticed a lighter load immediately on apache when I removed the "preview". Went from 80% cpu used down to a normal 2-3%. I thought we were going to have to do without the Calendar until I found it. No WONDER when the robots were hitting us in feb/march things were running so slow.

Question
Is there a way to set up a recurring event on the Calendar or do I need to update the date every week?
