Has anyone ever been here?

What are the apps like? Are there tables for privacy?

The hubby and I are celebrating a wedding anniversary and would like someplace to grab a drink and time to talk. Was thinking of Nighttown but a friend recommended the wine at Atma.

Any thoughts?

oh yeah, prefer veggie apps and entrees...though not total anti carnivore.

a good fruit and cheese dish would be nice,

or shellfish, something light

of course good wine and spirits always help Cool

as far as wine bars go:

le cave du vin on coventry = the bestest ever. they also have little hors d'ouveres and stuff to much on.
market street wine house across from GLBC = also awesome. dunno about food.

market ave. wine bar has good appetizers as well...I second le cave du vin on coventry though as bestest however.

on a side note...I wouldn't bother with d'vine on st clair...the one time i went there i was not impressed.

yeah, the place is full of fucking wanks who are there to impress some paris hilton wannabe by ordering some cheap-yet-overpriced obnoxiously french bottle of wine.

the people who work at la cave are INSANELY intelligent and will educate you on all the good stuff. you can go up to anyone who works there and say 'i want a lightly oakey, yet bold-with-plums merlot that's not too sharp.' they'll respond by giving you three small samples of exactly what you're asking for. plus they have old dominion milk barrel stout on tap (which is the guinness killer...).

All wine bars should have a sign on the door:

"No Stouts allowed"

la cav is great. d'vine sucks unless you just want to sit outside downtown when it's warm and drink some decent wine. most of my experiences there have been with waitresses who acted like they were doing us a favork by serving us. f them.

market avenue across from the fig is nice too, especially during the summer when the sidewalk patio is open.

the place on lee is owned by raj from spy. f him too.

but if you are looking fo the best wine bar look no further.

One that hasn't been brought up is the 806 (I think that's what it's called) in Tremont. Anyone have any info/opininos on that one?

Never been...but I think that one's supposed to be all dark and romantic with little corners and such. (Or I might be thinking of the 1800 martini place ....or whatever that is)

Correction: It is NEXT TO Great Lakes, on the corner.

Joy, the manager, is an old, old friend.

So we opted for the classic Mad Greek. Fortunately there were few guests so it was pretty private. As for the wine, heh, but I guess sometimes the company your with can make up for the limitations of one's environment.

I'm totally digging the idea of Le Cave du Vin and will post when I try the Atma wine bar. I hear they have a really great fruit platter.

As a side note, if I were to post for Cleveland's middle eastern hot spots, yeah the Mad Greek has the menu, but the baba was more oil and lemon juice than eggplant, bummer...service was okay, though.

ciao
(bad pun, I know)
