anyone ever hit up that middle-eastern place adjacent to Moda on W25?

it's my new favorite! they serve food similar to Aladdin's, but also offer hookahs with dozens of flavors of tobacco. the staff is young and friendly, nothing is over 10 bucks, and they are open until 3AM on weekends.

Yeah, I think that I've been by that place a few times during some weekends and it would be packed! I've always wanted to check it out!

hell yea... it's right across the street from us.
we love their hummus & get it all the time.

they have a little patio out front when it's nice out, and that place is always hoppin! they'd still be going after we were already home for the evening. the music always makes us think there's a Middle Eastern rave going on over there.

...forgot to mention that they have bellydancers and live DJs spining arabic pop, hiphop, and house on most fridays and saturdays.

Make it a bachelor party for you JT? It would prove most interesting to say the least!

um, somehow I don't think their version of that would work with what I had in mind.

**edit** so, before this topic goes even further off course...hookahs...don't know if they classify as food or drink but the place is def. worth checking out...particularly when it gets warm...I could deal with a little smokin' under the stars

i went there once when it first opened and it was really scary. there were like 3 employees sitting there staring at us, the place was empty, and the food in the displays looked really bad. we quickly turned and cruised out of there. maybe they started out slow and it's rocking now Question

we've only eaten in there once, and that was right when we were moving here (end of may). it was the same as what you saw. i have only eaten their falafel's and hummus... their falafel's are ok. that place at the west side market are better. their hummus is really good though. we always get hummus and pita from there to go. a few months ago they remodeled too and started to serve alcohol. i think they're doing a lot better now.

yes, they do serve alcohol and it has a slight clubby atmosphere b/c of the booming music and lighting . their hummous is amazing, the best I've had.

check out the pd article from last week
http://www.cleveland.com/friday/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/friday/1135935591303470.xml&coll=2

Code:
Walk into Kan Zaman (1917 West 25th St., Cleveland; 216-685-1500) on any weekend night, and you'll spot dozens of people -- American and South Asian alike -- sitting around smoldering, 3-foot-tall hookahs. Credit goes out to Wael "Wally" Ayyad for importing this enjoyable pastime to Cleveland.

Why do people enjoy smoking the hookah?

Smoking the hookah is a very relaxing activity. It relieves stress. Back home [in the Palestinian territories], it's more of a family thing. We go out for lunch or dinner, and we all smoke the hookah.

Is it bad for your health?

Most people think its worse for you than cigarettes. Its not. The water in the narghile [hookah] filters out the smoke and makes it clean. And you dont inhale the smoke.

What goes in the hookah bowl?

We import our tobacco from Jordan. Hookah tobacco is mixed with fruit pulp and molasses. So it's less strong than regular tobacco. And it burns slower.

What's the most popular flavor?

We sell 21 different flavors. The most popular ones are strawberry, grape and apple.

Does anybody try to pack the bowl with "special" tobacco?

No, no one puts their own stuff in the hookahs. My customers know they aren't allowed to do that. All hookahs are filled in the back by me.

Do some rookies need assistance?

Yes, some people need to be shown how to smoke the hookah. Occasionally, people will blow in the hose instead of inhale.

How many hookahs do you own?

I have 100 hookahs from Egypt, Jordan and Syria. On a busy weekend night, they will all be in use.

Review is most helpful --Do we need an Activities Coordinator for this? / let's make it happen! Anyone have any suggestions for a possible date?
