The discussion between Deviant and NeoRudemovement is closed in this thread.

I don't see a need to delete it, because it wasn't really unhealthy. HOWEVER... there is now a disucssion on Moderation Ethics in forbidden city. Go there to discuss your feelings on it.

Yes, I thought he played great too. Solid mixing, and track selection. He played some really great tunes that were perfect for that crowd. And he even did it all on Vinyl. lol

As I've said on the other thread that sprung forth from the loins of my joke that offended all the John B. heads:

- My joke was not directed at Alex Forte.
- If I dressed like John B, you would all be dissing me.
- I have issues with DJs who dress for the purpose of drawing attention to themselves rather than to the music. This goes for both male and female DJs out there.
- I do not know John's intentions for dressing like he does, and I don't really care. He is free to do as he likes, and I am certainly not the DJ Dress Code Warden. If that is a true expression of his personality, great. If he is doing it purely to stand out in the world of DJs, then I think that is a poor reason. Think Slipknot and Mushroomhead.
- I was serious when I said that I considered dressing up when I first started. But I reconsidered for all the reasons that I stated above. Plus, I would not have done as good a job on my hair and makeup as John B.

And I think that many of you would be lying if you said you didn't think the same as I did. I just have the balls to state it publically. As many of you know, I am the last person to play the political bullshit game.

Perhaps if you understood just what John B has been doing these days you would get it.

http://www.beta-recordings.co.uk/americangirls/

It makes PERFECT sense for him to be dressing the way he does. Beta recordings is his website, btw. I think its like a cool way of capitalizing on the whole electro non-movement -- moving d&b forward and yet keeping it just as campy as most of your comments.

It's my understanding that he likes any girls he can get his hands on.

One last comment...I personally don't give a fvck what any DJ looks like...either you can play or you can't. end of story. Appearance should be about the last thing that someone's opinion of a DJ is based on.

That being said, its always easy and occasionally amusing (probably more than occasionally if you're female) to comment on someone's looks, particularly if they are as 'interesting' as john's.

Anyone got any pictures of keoki from sunday night to post? From what I was told he'd make John B look like a member of the freakin' partridge family.

I suppose so...just all seems a bit attention-whorish to me. Perhaps if I had a proper understanding of John B's career and satirical take on electro, I would understand that there was a deeper concept behind his appearance, rather than mistaking it for a need for attention. I suppose that at his level, a little '80s flair and pizzazz is to be expected, especially given the music he plays.

I agree, to an extent. My opinion of a DJ declines significantly if that DJ capitalizes on appearance (or being the child of a celebrity, etc.) to get ahead, regardless of his/her skills as a DJ. It's that whole pop music marketing mentality that I would hate to see infect dance music. Though it's already too late, in many ways...

I think that, ultimately, it all washes out. The cream rises to the top.

Well you have to admit its campy, and I'm not sure it is a purely satirical take on electro. I do know that when he was at Trilogy 4 years ago (before the whole 80's thing) all I heard about was his crazy hair. Nonethelss, I look at him and can easily say "Yeah... this guy gets it" while I look at others trying to go the route of 80's/electro and laugh.

Dressing up to get attention. Hmm. I guess if you make your outfit your "shtick" then I agree with you. If you dress the part to accentuate the music you are making then it is a different story.

omg. Stupid Me

that outfit leaves *nothing* to the imagination, does it? There needs to be a 'censored' bar over his "mini Tron".

What a package!

I mean, dressing up and minimal techno make a good entertainment package.
