I'm not a fan of the Mackie HRs...

I built my 5.1 mix studio with Tannoy System 800s and 600s ... i used the blindfold test and brought home like 15 speakers home from Sam Ash..

The tannoy's employ the dual-concentric speaker cone design. meaning all frequencies originate from the same location. rather than a separate woofer and 'tweeter' in two different spots. This helps eliminate phasing issues when mixing in the studio. cause if u move your head, the relative distance to either frequency source changes, and not uniformally.

No my system isn't PMC3 certified or whatever, but when am i mixing for anything that large of a budget production. and i wont be mixing in my house either. IMHO you can get a better sounding system cheaper.

My largest complaint with mixing for Film on nearfield monitors is that in the theatre, the mix sounds totally different because it's on a farfield system...

just my 2 cents...

could you imagine how awesome the street shoot out scene in heat would sound using this as a home surround sound....even southpark the movie would be golden on this system.

Yeah, Def... but you'd need a kick ass multi-channel EQ to boost the lows and highs... only because, as production monitors, they are designed to have the most flat frequency response as possible.. and we're used to EQ'd home theatre systems.. but to agree with you,

it would certainly be kick ass.

...drooling. that scene is badass on any reasonably competent system.

lol for a surround sound install?

Just pull out the credit card and you're rolling.

The bill will be hefty but you'll have decent sound.

But they come without cables. You'll have to count a couple hundreds bucks cause you'll want to get some top notch quality cables.

I hope you post a review and tell us if the lady likes it

Step one is to give up spending money on things that don't matter (no order):

you car
any sort of insurance (vehicle, health, homeowner's, etc)
Food
Clothes
toilet paper
your utility bills like water and gas. shower up in the bathroom at burger king.

you get the idea.
