from donatos . . .

the new smokehouse bbq pizza

featuring a combination of smoked meats - bacon, ham and sausage, with provolone cheese and crispy french fried onions on a smoky barbecue sauce.

i went with the thin crust over the traditional thicker style.

two thumbs up . . . way up.

I cringe every time that commercial comes on... it looks like a heart attack on a platter. But, should I ever get diagnosed with 6 months to live, I will take up your recommendation. Razz

it's funny, i've never even seen the commercial. i got online the other day to find their phone number and saw an ad for that pizza. i had the munchies, so i ordered it. man, i'm so glad i did. even my picky wife totally dug it.

i recommend the purchase of a smokehouse pizza.

ponte vecchio on the superior viaduct

besides being 80 steps from my front door, this place is amazing. they have a HUGE selection of italian wines categorized by region.

on valentines day me and my date went there 30 mins before closing. the owner hand-prepared us a plate of antipasti that was to die for (marinated artichoke hearts, paper-thin proscuitto, chunks of mozzarella, shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes, some cold sauce-thing, genoa salami, olives, to name a few). he then asked us what sauce we would like for our pasta entree (we said pink, cream&tomato base) with no meat over a slightly al dente penne. 10 mins later he brought it out. it was a delicious concoction of roma tomato paste, diced yellow tomatoes, onions, garlic, cream, and whatever else in there that made it heaven. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION.

can't say enough about the place. if you go there on a weekend, reservations are 3 weeks in advance.

vegan philly cheesesteak that my friend who works at giovanni's (vegan pizza/cheesesteak joint in philly) made for me when she stayed at my place.

super thin slices of seitan, marinated in a bbq-mushroom reduction for 2 hours. crusty whole wheat roll, split, topped with the seitan, grilled mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. topped with bbq sauce and melted soy "provelone."

either that, or a vegan burrito at earwax cafe in chicago. soyrizo (soy chorizo) with spanish rice, refried beans, vegan sour cream, guacamole, and artichoke hearts wrapped up in a tortilla, then toasted.

damn i've eaten well so far this year.

No I really do love those. Thankfully I'm really loving massive amounts of exercise lately too.

i wouldnt be sad if they stopped making cadbury eggs.

i think the best food i've eaten all year would have to be the the meal i had on valentines day at the Metropolitan Café. i cant get enough of that place! we got the roasted spinach and artichoke dip appetizer which was so, so good. i love spinach and artichoke dip, so if its available i usually get it - and at some places its just not a good thing. i got the chilean sea bass on the bed of lobster risotto and spinach - the best fish i've ever had. by far. the lobster risotto was a lot of flavor - but, wasnt overwhelming and the spinach was cooked just right. we also got a side of the garlic mashed potatoes and those were fabulous as well (and the side was big enough for two people, plus we still had some left over) now granted for two people, including a few drinks, the bill was close to $100 - but id still eat there everyday if i could. ive never been disappointed when eating there...
