Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. It'll give me something good to watch at work for once. Plus, after watching for a while, I always get in the mood to go outside and kick the ball around. Usually makes for a good summer.
It's only a few months away, Anybody else excited?
I can't wait to play England our first game!!!!!!!
world cup fucking owns. world cup in HD is gonna be sick as heck
So let's get something set the fuck up for the first match. Who's in? Where? How drunk are we gonna get? And if Marc doesn't come how many times are we gonna call after the U.S. wins
stoked as fuck. '02 in NYC was brilliant, cuz there were so many heads into it...not to mention a shitload of spots played the games...it was all late at night - some bars would close the doors and stop serving at 4.00, and small groups would stay for the 2nd game. So awesome.
And not to rain on your guys' parade, but the US team is nonsense. They will probably get through, but will be promptly handled by whoever they face at that point. No chance.
Getting amped up for it with the Champions League action and whatever Premiership action I can catch. I don't know what to think about Directv in regards to soccer...you have to pay - get this - $15/month for the soccer package. That's crap. On the other hand, they give you free games from La Liga, and some Europa League & UEFA matches... :/
So it's off to the Mad Dog in the Fog for the Arsenal v. Barça match tomorrow!!!!! :cues up D Kay's Barcelona:
Anyone catch Joe Cole's sweetness v. Man U the other day?

i just love watching the games - the energy is so out of control

Just beating England will be fine with me.
Actually soccer experts are saying they have not seen a US Team like this since the 80's soccer revival in the states and predict at least a decent placing.
Joe Cole is not good anymore(check stats) and got lucky on that (was sweet though even though I am a MANC). Chelsea Scum is lucky Rooney and Fàbregas and both out so now they have a chance a title again without Jose as manager.
Get used to paying for soccer channels besides FSC in the states until people actually care about it. Not enough ad revenue to make it profitable either. Racked up some debt myself over the years for the beautiful game.

hahaha....the best thing about soccer to me is being able to appreciate it as an outsider for the most part...I wasn't born in London or Barcelona or Milan or Munich, so I can't really lay claim to a team...I just enjoy it for the game! I can enjoy Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea...whoever. I do have favorites - like in '02, I was for Japan all the way b/c all my homeboys from Tokyo were going out of their minds that they were playing well...that's kind of how I go with it. Except for Italy -- I definitely did not like their style of play at all. It probably didn't help to have my Irish friend keep drilling it into my head how dirty they were, and how they played for the draw, etc...
but yeah - at least the World Cup will be on ESPN 2 and no one will have to pay to see anything. Too bad I'll be in NYC when it starts - it would be cool to link up with you for some of the games.
As for the US team...meh. So boring. They just don't get how to play... England looked way too solid in qualifying w/ new manager, so the only way they're getting through is because the rest of our group is nonsense. I say we advance w/ either 8 or 10 points.
I like England, Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Germany & Japan (sentimental!). No jinx, but I hope they all work it. It's gonna be fucking outstanding.

I grew up in Leeds with a Hooligan father so its in my blood! jk
I like the fact the the USA team has players from other international leagues/teams (the most players I can remember in recent years). Hopefully we will become well rounded and get better.
My Mom's friend from South Africa says people are fleeing the country right now in fear of a massive civil war...not sure how much is related to the recent murder of the white supremacist, but it does have something to do with farmers and families (Afrikaaners) being killed. Totally not getting any news coverage, either, but it doesn't sound good.
Hope everything works out, not just for our World Cup fix, but that country has been a mess for so long...they need to sort their shit out.
