I've been playing around with PHPBB 3.0.

I actually have a migrated copy of this form somewhere else if you want to check it out. Currently it is a vanilla format. If I decide to migrate, it will likely stay that way for a bit until I see how the upgrades go.

+ Sort Order Mod is built in
+ Merge Topic is built in (For Moderators)
+ Granular choices of how to display images
+ Friend/Foes user ignores
+ Validation is built in to 3.0 (Though I haven't figured out how to use it - it will not have the bugs we have now)
+ No more DST bugs.
+ password protected forms - kind of link a members only area as long as you know the pw you can access it
+ Group Messaging
+ Flash Tags

? Last Seen Option? - I havent looked into this.
? Anti Spam - There is no mod away, but it looks like some of the basic problems have been resolved here.
? Gallery - We don't use this anyhow, why even have it.
? Session Flooding that we had problems with
? No RSS feed for clevelandnightlife.com

- No approved calendar mods are available yet, though there are some in developement.
- we would loose this snazzy style

If you want to play around...

your current username and password will work.

Besides that Calendar Poll question I just posted...

I really like the snazzy look of this forum. I get at least one email a month asking for the template as it was privately developed.

If I migrate over to PHPBB3.0 - this style/template is not available. There is one close to it. However, given that PHPBB3.0 is in its infancy I am inclined not to add any of the current styles/templates until they are better developed. That would leave us with the plain vanilla template you see here: http://www.clevelandnightlife.net/forum_demo

My question is, given the comments I made about the new software, would you guys prefer to sacrifice the current visual appeal (and other potential minuses/questions) for better functionality - or just leave things the way they are? Play around with the demo form before you make your decision please.

Checkout

http://forum.submerge.in

We recently upgraded to our website and did some back end stuff with vbulletin. I am a moderator there, so if you want any detailed questions, I can probably get them answered, if I couldn't already answer them.

We're pretty happy with it, and we've been using it since 2006!

Honestly, the php 3 template you have there looks like an old folk's nursing home. All cold and sterile. I would say wait till you have a better template.

Also, do you plan on enabling html? Just curious about that really. Not entirely needed.

Huh? HTML is enabled, othewise people wouldn't be able to post utube videos. Unless you are talking about the demo forum.

Yes, I believe graph and I were talking about the demo forum. I was anyway.

what im looking for is what i have seen at a couple other forums.

say for example....whether you are logged in or not. you have to have say a minimum of "100 post" to view a section like "sandbox".

i really dont think having all that garbage up there for just anyone who registered to look at is good.

this would mean even suckers who just bump their events pretty much couldnt look at it and outsiders couldnt view it at all.

just saying, but saying it loud Smile

I think that is what the "password" would do. If you change the password monthly then outsiders wouldn't see and you have to stay in the loop to be updated on the password.

Also, in phpbb3.0 there are anti bumping options.

Just no calendar yet and other things mentioned. I also have to see if the advertisers (the ones at the bottom) will continue to support with phpbb 3.0.
