Ive looked into both and this is the short of what I no.
Finale is used to create scores from recorded pieces. You can run stems through it and within a pretty high degree of accuracy get back the original score it came from. It is also itself score and notation software so you can create arrangements with complete and proper classical notation in it, this is the software you see used in the movie drumline.
Melodyne is something different. It can do similar things with your recorded sources including export note structure to midi (neat). It also can do transpose, adjustment, rearrangement, tone correction, key correction, key change, time change, warping, note swap and almost anything else you could probably think of.
Melodyne is one of the most interesting pieces of audio software Ive ever seen and I have been planning on picking up a copy and spending a month or two beating on it as soon as I get my new house shit out of the way.
